SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Department on Friday forecast light rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds at scattered locations across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, warning of temporary weather disruptions in several areas.

According to the seven-day outlook, May 15 is expected to remain mostly dry initially, with chances of thundershowers developing in parts of the Union Territory towards the late afternoon, evening, and night. Similar conditions are likely on May 16, with dry weather in the early hours followed by possible thundershowers later in the day and night.

On May 17 and May 18, mostly dry conditions are expected to prevail, though a few locations may witness brief thundershowers during the late afternoon or evening hours.

The forecast indicates a slightly more active spell on May 19, when thundershower activity may begin from the early morning hours, though any spell is expected to remain short in duration.

Between May 20 and May 21, dry weather is likely for most of the period, although the possibility of isolated thundershowers will persist.

Meteorological officials have also cautioned that gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph may occur in some areas, particularly during afternoon and evening hours. Brief intense showers and hailstorms cannot be ruled out at isolated places.

They said several parts of the region may witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over the coming days, with a gradual improvement in overall weather conditions expected after May 20. However, isolated spells of rain and cloudy skies may continue in some districts depending on local atmospheric conditions.

Authorities have advised residents, tourists, and travellers to remain alert, particularly in hilly areas and near water bodies, as sudden weather changes could impact road travel, boating, and outdoor activities. People have also been urged to avoid open spaces during lightning activity and to follow official weather advisories before undertaking journeys to tourist destinations.
