Srinagar, May 13: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said the ongoing ‘Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir Campaign’ has dealt a major blow to the narcotics smuggling ecosystem, while asserting that the administration is simultaneously focusing on the transformation and development of border villages in Kupwara district.
In a series of posts on X after participating in a padyatra and visiting border areas of Kupwara, the Lieutenant Governor, as per Alfaaz – The Words, said sustained action against drug traffickers was crippling narco-terror networks across the Union Territory.
“Today in Kupwara, I joined the Padyatra under ‘Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir Campaign’ & addressed a gathering. Over the past 32 days, we’ve struck a devastating blow to the entire drug smuggling ecosystem & this people’s movement is transforming into a revolution against narcotics,” he posted on X.
Highlighting the administration’s intensified crackdown against drug smugglers and peddlers, Sinha said stringent measures were being taken to dismantle the network operating in the region.
“Our consistent action is crippling narco-terrorist networks. Properties worth crores have been seized, assets confiscated, and passports of 15 smugglers recommended for cancellation. Over 730 smugglers and peddlers have been arrested,” the Lieutenant Governor said in another X post.
The Lieutenant Governor also underlined the government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure and improving living conditions in frontier villages of Kupwara, saying development initiatives launched after 2019 were aimed at creating better opportunities for local youth.
“Every village deserves All-weather roads, modern schools & abundant opportunities for the youth that is the vision driving us to transform Kupwara’s border villages into model villages post-2019. Together, we will turn our resolve into reality,” Sinha said on X.
Referring to his visit to Trehgam village in the frontier district, the Lieutenant Governor said several development projects were inaugurated and foundation stones laid during the visit.
“Visited Vibrant Village, Tregam in Kupwara. Inaugurated & laid foundation stones for several projects. Discussed needs and concerns of the villagers. Under leadership of Hon’ble PM Sh. Narendra Modi Ji, GOI remains fully committed to the all-round development of border villages,” he posted.
The remarks came during a day-long visit to Kupwara district, where the Lieutenant Governor participated in anti-drug awareness activities and reviewed developmental initiatives in border areas.
