CBK chargesheets 11 accused in Shopian HDFC Bank fraud case

Srinagar, May 07: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in connection with an alleged large-scale financial fraud at the Shopian branch of HDFC Bank.

In a statement issued to Alfaaz – The Words, the CBK said chargesheet in FIR No. 30/2025 was presented before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Shopian, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.

The statement said the case surfaced following a written complaint alleging financial irregularities at the bank branch. Subsequently, acting on the directions of Police Headquarters (PHQ) J&K, the matter was transferred to Crime Branch J&K for a detailed investigation.

During the course of investigation, several individuals were identified for their alleged involvement in the fraud. The accused include Adil Ayoub Ganai of Memendar Shopian, presently residing at Hamza Colony Baghat-e-Kanipora Nowgam, who was serving as Branch Manager of HDFC Bank Pulwama/Shopian; Irfan Majeed Zargar of Bonigam Shopian, also posted as Branch Manager at HDFC Bank Pulwama/Shopian; Mubashir Hussain Sheikh of Karena Kulgam, then an employee of HDFC Bank Shopian; Zaid Manzoor of Dagerpora Khannabal Anantnag, then an employee of HDFC Bank Pulwama; and Javaid Ahmad Bhat of Below Rajpora Pulwama, then an employee of HDFC Bank Pulwama/Shopian.

Crime Branch Kashmir said the accused persons were arrested on February 18, 2026 and have remained in judicial custody since then.

The statement further said that upon completion of the investigation, a chargesheet against a total of 11 accused persons was filed before the court for judicial determination.
