SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association (JKMEGA) on Thursday urged the government to expedite long-pending promotions of engineers at various senior levels and ensure regularisation of officials serving in adhoc and in-charge capacities across departments.

In a statement issued in Srinagar, JKMEGA welcomed the recent placements made at the levels of Assistant Engineer (AE) and Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), describing the move as a long-awaited and positive step for the engineering fraternity in Jammu and Kashmir.

JKMEGA President Er Ferdous Ahad Bhat expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and Principal Secretary, Public Works (R and B), Anil Kumar Singh, for their efforts towards strengthening the engineering cadre in the Union Territory.

The association, however, stressed the need for immediate promotions at the levels of Chief Engineer (CE), Superintending Engineer (SE) and Executive Engineer (XEN), stating that the process should be carried out strictly on the basis of seniority, merit and transparency.

JKMEGA said timely promotions are crucial for maintaining institutional efficiency, improving employee morale and ensuring effective delivery of public services.

The association also called upon the government to immediately forward all pending regularisation proposals to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission in order to end the prolonged adhoc culture and in-charge arrangements prevailing in several departments.

According to the association, a transparent and time-bound career progression mechanism is essential for the professional growth of engineers and for strengthening the infrastructure and development framework of Jammu and Kashmir.

JKMEGA further reiterated its commitment to work in coordination with the administration for the welfare of the engineering community and the larger public interest.
