Writer, social activist Nazir Johar remembered on fourth death anniversary in Lolab

Kupwara, May 05: Renowned writer and social activist Nazir Johar was remembered on his fourth death anniversary on Tuesday at Sogam in the Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Nazir Johar, father of Lolab MLA Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, passed away on May 5, 2022. People from different sections of the area gathered to pay tributes and recall his literary and social contributions.

Speakers at the event described him as a committed writer and social worker who consistently highlighted public issues through his writings and advocacy, contributing to the welfare of the region. His demise was termed a significant loss for Lolab and the wider district.

During his lifetime, Johar faced personal hardships, including the killing of his two brothers, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone and Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Lone, by unknown gunmen. Despite these challenges, the family continued its engagement in public service.

His sons have remained active in public life, with Qaiser Jamsheed Lone serving as MLA Lolab and Nasir Nazir Lone as District Development Council member from Sogam.

Following a Fatiha Khwani, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone held a meeting with party workers, where he outlined the works undertaken during his one-year tenure and reiterated commitment to fulfilling public promises.

He also criticised the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party, alleging inadequate development in the area during its tenure, and urged people to remain vigilant against political misinformation.

The MLA called upon the public to actively participate in the upcoming Panchayat elections and support capable and educated representatives. He said further development initiatives and employment opportunities would be taken up in the coming period.

The programme concluded with prayers for the departed soul and tributes from attendees.
