SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is likely to expand his cabinet in the coming days, with indications suggesting that all three vacant ministerial berths in the Jammu and Kashmir government may soon be filled.
Sources within the political establishment said the proposed expansion is expected to focus on maintaining balanced regional representation across Jammu and Kashmir. As per the likely arrangement, one cabinet minister may be inducted from South Kashmir, another from Srinagar district, and the third from North Kashmir.
The move is being viewed as a significant political and administrative step aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing outreach across different regions of the Valley. Discussions over probable candidates and the allocation of portfolios are reportedly underway within the ruling establishment.
At present, three positions in the cabinet remain vacant, and the anticipated expansion is expected to address demands for broader representation from various districts and constituencies.
Although there has been no official confirmation from the government regarding the timing of the expansion, political observers believe the process could be finalised soon after the completion of ongoing administrative consultations.
The expected cabinet reshuffle and expansion have already generated considerable political interest across Jammu and Kashmir, with party workers and leaders closely monitoring developments and speculating over possible new faces in the ministry. (KNC)
