Jammu, May 4, 2026 : Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director of Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, on Monday chaired a detailed review meeting with Principal Census Officers to assess preparations for Census 2027 across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of all districts and the Commissioners of the Jammu and Srinagar Municipal Corporations.

Reviewing the progress made so far, Sharma discussed key agenda points, including the appointment and registration of enumerators and supervisors, training of field staff, formation of House Listing Blocks (HLBs), publicity measures, self-enumeration and overall administrative preparedness.

Officials informed the meeting that the appointment of enumerators and supervisors has been completed across all districts and their details have been uploaded to the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS). Sharma directed officers to immediately rectify any pending discrepancies in registration to ensure smooth monitoring of field operations.

The CPCO also reviewed the training process. Field trainer sessions have been completed in most districts, while district administrations said the remaining sessions would conclude shortly. Sharma stressed that the training of enumerators and supervisors must be conducted in a structured and uniform manner, with special focus on concepts, field protocols and the use of digital applications.

Publicity and awareness activities also came up for discussion. Officials said awareness campaigns are being carried out through multiple channels, including hoardings, posters, mobile announcement vans, radio, television and social media.

The meeting was informed that public representatives, prominent personalities and sportspersons are also being engaged to promote Census 2027 and self-enumeration. Sharma directed district administrations to further intensify outreach efforts to ensure maximum public participation.

Progress on the formation of House Listing Blocks was reviewed in detail. Districts were instructed to ensure timely and accurate finalisation of HLBs, with particular attention to proper demarcation and the elimination of duplication or gaps in coverage.

The status of fund devolution and expenditure was also reviewed. District officials were assured that issues related to these matters would be resolved in a time-bound manner.

Concluding the meeting, Sharma instructed all officers to adhere strictly to timelines and maintain close coordination at every level to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of Census 2027.
