Rs 55 Lakh Fraud Case: Victims Oppose Bail for Accused in High Court | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Victims of an alleged multi-lakh fraud staged a protest at Pratap Park in Srinagar on Monday, urging the High Court not to grant bail to the accused involved in the case.

The protesters, comprising residents from different parts of Anantnag district, alleged that the accused had devastated several families through fraudulent activities before being arrested by the police.

“We appeal to the High Court not to entertain the bail of these impostors. They have ruined many households,” the protesting victims said.

They further said that a lower court has already rejected the bail of the accused, adding that the matter has now been taken to the High Court.

The demonstrators demanded strict legal action and justice for all those affected by what they described as a large-scale fraud operation.

Last year, Police in Anantnag had dismantled an organized fraud racket and arrested three accused identified as Tasaduq Hussain Dar alias Haji Tasaduq of Sadoora, Mohd Iqbal Wani alias Iqbal Bumdori of Bumdoora Kokernag, and Mujeeb Ahmad Koka of Shankerpora Dooru.

A case under FIR No. 126/2025 has been registered at Police Station Anantnag under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to police, the accused allegedly cheated victims of large sums, including Rs 55 lakh from a complainant in Kishtwar, by posing as traders in wild garlic, locally known as “Jangli Lahsun,” and promising high returns.

Investigators said the accused defaulted on payments after collecting money and allegedly used intimidation when confronted. The racket is believed to have targeted multiple victims across Anantnag and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
