
SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district registered 153 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 147 accused persons during the first four months of 2026.
According to official figures, police carried out multiple operations leading to the recovery of contraband substances, including 170.995 kilograms of cannabis powder, 185.001 kilograms of ganja, 1.515 kilograms of charas, 14.574 kilograms of poppy straw, 160 grams of brown sugar, 38 grams of heroin, and 750 intoxicant tablets. The estimated value of the seized contraband is around Rs 48.20 lakh.
During the period, police also destroyed illegal narcotic cultivation spread over about 190 marlas of land. In addition, 21 vehicles used in drug trafficking were seized, while 10 vehicle registration certificates (RCs) and 9 driving licences were cancelled as part of legal action against offenders.
Anantnag Police attached properties worth about Rs 3.70 crore linked to drug peddlers, including five residential houses and three vehicles. Three illegally constructed restaurants along NH-44, owned by drug peddlers, were also demolished.
Police have urged the public to share information related to drug trafficking to assist efforts against narcotics.
