SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday attached a residential property belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Kupwara district of north Kashmir under the provisions of the NDPS Act.

The action followed an investigation into the financial assets of Abdul Majeed Munshi, also known as Pandit, a resident of Gulgam, who was earlier booked in FIR No. 309/2018 at Police Station Kupwara under Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act.

Police said the attachment was carried out after an inquiry under Chapter VA of the NDPS Act, which pertains to identification and forfeiture of illegally acquired property. The probe revealed that the accused had allegedly accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income through narcotics-related activities.

Officials said verification established that the accused owned a residential house in Gulgam valued at approximately Rs 19.40 lakh. The property was attached under Section 68F of the NDPS Act after being prima facie identified as proceeds of drug trafficking.

Police said the move forms part of a wider effort to dismantle financial networks linked to the narcotics trade by targeting assets acquired through illegal means.
