SRINAGAR: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has appointed 14 candidates as Associate Law Officers in the Jammu and Kashmir Legal (Subordinate) Service under the direct recruitment quota, following recommendations of the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board.

The appointments were formalised through Government Order No. 5630-JK(LD) of 2026, issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Civil Secretariat, carrying Pay Level 6E (Rs 35,900–Rs 1,13,500) with immediate effect.

Shaista Shafiq topped the merit list with 101.32 marks, followed by Anmol Mahajan (97.63) and Tariq Assadullah Wani (96.63). Other selected candidates include Rehan Ali Wani, Pritak Sharma, Sajad Ahmad Bhat and Inshah Yasin under the Open Merit category.

Selections were also made across reserved categories, including Puneet Kumari and Sapana Sapolia (Scheduled Caste), Sayeed Aftab Hussain Shah (ALC/IB), Zahoor Ahmad Shah and Adil Ahmad Wagay (RBA), Shah Faisal (PSP), and Dinesh Jamwal (EWS).

The government has directed all appointees to report to the Civil Secretariat in Jammu or Srinagar within 21 days of the issuance of the order, failing which their appointments will be cancelled ab initio without further notice.

Officials stated that candidates will be allowed to join only after producing original documents, including academic and qualification certificates, date of birth proof, health certification from the concerned Chief Medical Officer, experience certificates issued by competent judicial authorities, domicile certificates, and valid category certificates where applicable.

In addition, candidates who have availed self-employment loans through the District Industries Centre or Employment Department must relinquish ownership stakes in such enterprises and undertake repayment of outstanding liabilities through salary-linked instalments, monitored by the Drawing and Disbursing Officer.

The appointments are subject to strict verification of credentials. Any candidate found to have submitted forged documents will have their appointment cancelled retrospectively and may face legal consequences. Appointees are also required to submit an affidavit, duly attested by a First Class Judicial Magistrate, affirming the authenticity of their documents and absence of criminal records.

The service conditions will be governed by the Jammu and Kashmir Legal (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, 2021. Salaries will be released only after verification of all certificates by the issuing authorities.

All appointees will remain on probation for a period of two years and will be covered under the New Pension Scheme notified vide SRO 400 of 2009. Seniority among them will be determined in accordance with the JK Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956.

The government further clarified that the appointments will remain subject to the outcome of any pending writ petitions or legal proceedings before competent courts.
