
SRINAGAR: Police in Kokernag area of South Kashmir arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered a quantity of contraband during routine naka checking, as part of action against drug trafficking in the district.

According to police, a team from Police Station Kokernag intercepted a suspicious individual at Dodhkol Adhal Vailoo during checking. The accused, identified as Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh of Adhal, was travelling from Gadol towards Adhal when he allegedly attempted to evade inspection, raising suspicion among the personnel.
During a subsequent search, police recovered around 4.4 kilograms of charas powder concealed in a polythene bag in his possession. The accused was immediately taken into custody on the spot.
A case under FIR No. 36/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kokernag, and further investigation has been initiated to trace forward and backward linkages and identify the source of the contraband.
Police reiterated their commitment to intensify action against drug trafficking networks and urged the public to share information to help eradicate the drug menace from society.
