
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Saturday visited Baramulla and inaugurated key infrastructure projects while laying foundation stones for several new development works in the education and healthcare sectors.
At Government Degree College (Women) Baramulla, the Minister inaugurated the newly constructed Science Block, aimed at strengthening academic infrastructure and improving laboratory and learning facilities for students.
She also released the annual college magazine “Sonzal” on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Sakeena Itoo said the Omar Abdullah-led government remains committed to public welfare, equitable development, and empowering all sections of society through quality education and strengthened institutional infrastructure. She emphasised that women’s education is a priority, stating that educated women are key contributors to societal progress.
The Minister also laid the foundation stone for several projects, including a Drug De-addiction Centre at Government Medical College Baramulla, an Autopsy/Mortuary Centre at GMC Baramulla, a Scheduled Tribe Postgraduate Hostel at Government Degree College Boys Baramulla, and a 100-bedded girls’ hostel to improve residential facilities for female students.
She reiterated that these projects will be completed within stipulated timelines and will significantly improve access, quality, and equity in education and healthcare services across the district.
MLA Baramulla Javid Hassan Baig, MLA Uri Sajad Shafi, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla SF Hamid, Director Higher Education, and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Principal GDC Women Baramulla Prof Neelofar Bhat presented a brief report on the college.
