SRINAGAR: Health Minister Sakina Itoo on Sunday said that an inquiry has been ordered into the death of a child at GMC Anantnag, asserting that any negligence in patient care will invite strict action.

Speaking to media persons, Itoo said, “We have ordered an inquiry into the child’s death at GMC Anantnag; patient care cannot be compromised. If any doctor is found negligent, strict action will follow. I express condolences to the family. The truth will be established after a thorough investigation.”

She reiterated that patient care remains a top priority and cannot be compromised under any circumstances. The Minister assured that those found responsible, if any, will be dealt with strictly.

Itoo further said she has sought an explanation from the Principal GMC and the Medical Superintendent regarding the incident and the availability of doctors at the time. “They informed that senior doctors were present at that time, but the question remains what exactly happened. If there is any negligence, strict action will be initiated. An inquiry has already been ordered,” she added. (KNC)
