Jammu Kashmir Govt Orders Inspection of High and Higher Secondary Schools | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a comprehensive inspection of all high and higher secondary schools across the Union Territory to assess infrastructure, academic functioning, and staffing.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), a total of 1,742 schools—939 in Jammu division and 803 in Kashmir division—have been identified and allotted to designated officers for inspection. Each officer has been assigned one school.

The order states that the visiting officers will conduct an objective assessment of all parameters and record observations with supporting evidence wherever necessary. They have been directed to identify gaps, deficiencies, and best practices being followed in the institutions.

Officials are required to submit detailed inspection reports to the respective Directorate of School Education and upload the same on the Sarvekshan Platform (Vidya Samiksha Kendra, JK) within 60 days.

During inspections, officers will examine whether schools are operating from government-owned buildings and assess the availability and functionality of smart classrooms and ICT laboratories. They will also verify basic facilities including toilets, separate sanitation facilities for girls, drinking water, electricity, internet connectivity, and playgrounds.

The inspection will further cover the availability of Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL), vocational laboratories, and other learning infrastructure. Officers have also been asked to report on the availability of teaching and non-teaching staff, including principals, lecturers, and masters.

In addition, the assessment will include academic parameters such as streams offered, subjects available, student enrolment, and vocational education programmes. Officers have been instructed to submit suggestions for improving the functioning of the schools under review.
