SRINAGAR: Authorities have ordered the closure of schools in two districts of Jammu and Kashmir today following adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and safety concerns.

In Poonch district, all government and private schools remained closed on Saturday, April 4, in view of continuous heavy rainfall, slippery road conditions, and the risk of shooting stones. The decision was taken in compliance with directions issued by the Deputy Commissioner, based on a weather advisory from the Indian Meteorological Department warning of hazardous conditions. Officials stated that the move was aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Similarly, in Rajouri district, the administration ordered the closure of all government and private schools for Saturday following intermittent rainfall across the region. The directive was issued by the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Rajouri as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, intermittent rains continued across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, affecting both plains and higher reaches. Several upper areas also witnessed light snowfall. The persistent wet weather has resulted in slippery roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and slow traffic movement in parts of the region.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as weather conditions continue to remain unstable.
