Jammu: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that the Jammu and Kashmir government will initiate the regularisation of daily wagers and casual labourers in a phased manner during the current financial year.

The Chief Minister made the statement while replying to a bill introduced by MLA M Y Tarigami, which called for the regularisation of services of casual and other categories of workers.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Abdullah told the House that the issue, which has remained unresolved for years, is being actively addressed. He noted that the assurance regarding phased regularisation had already been placed on record earlier as well.

“It is the first day of the financial year, and I reiterate that the process will be carried out within this period in a phased manner,” he said.

Highlighting the role of such workers, the Chief Minister said the government recognises their contribution and is mindful of their concerns.

He also informed that a designated committee examining the matter is yet to submit its recommendations. The government, he added, will proceed with the regularisation process once the report is received.
