SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday directed law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks across Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that tackling drug abuse must remain the top priority for the administration.
Chairing a high-level meeting at Lok Bhavan with Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police and senior civil and police officials, the Lieutenant Governor called for the adoption of a “zero tolerance” policy against the drug menace in the Union Territory.
Emphasising a multi-pronged strategy, Sinha stressed the need for stronger law enforcement action against traffickers, intensive mass awareness campaigns to discourage drug use, and expansion of treatment, counselling and rehabilitation facilities to move towards a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
“Action against drug abuse must be our top priority. We need a collective mechanism to safeguard our youth and ensure a healthy future for Jammu and Kashmir,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He also directed officials to strengthen grassroots intelligence gathering and ensure coordinated and stringent action against drug smugglers operating in the region.
The meeting reviewed preparations for a three-month campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, with the Lieutenant Governor urging senior officers to lead from the front and ensure participation of all sections of society to turn the initiative into a mass movement.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Atal Dulloo, Nalin Prabhat and other officers.
