New Delhi, Mar 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated a semiconductor manufacturing facility of Kaynes Technology in Sanand, Gujarat, marking the start of production and underlining the rapid growth of India’s chip ecosystem. Calling the development a sign of momentum, the Prime Minister noted that it comes just a month after the launch of production at the Micron Technology plant in the same region. He described it as proof of the speed at which India is building its semiconductor capabilities.

The Sanand facility will manufacture Intelligent Power Modules, crucial for electric vehicles and industrial applications, with a significant portion already earmarked for export. Modi said the plant reflects the vision of “Make in India, Make for the World” and positions India as an emerging player in global semiconductor supply chains.

Highlighting the broader push, the Prime Minister said work is underway on multiple semiconductor projects across the country under the India Semiconductor Mission, with investments exceeding Rs 1.6 lakh crore. He added that the next phase of the mission aims to strengthen domestic production of semiconductor materials and equipment, while building a full-scale ecosystem.

Emphasising the strategic importance of chip manufacturing, Modi said strengthening supply chains is essential in an era marked by global disruptions, and that India’s progress would contribute to a more resilient global technology landscape.
