SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday attended the Mahavir Janma Kalyanak celebrations organised by SS Jain Sabha in Jammu, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira.
Extending greetings on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the enduring relevance of Lord Mahavira’s teachings, particularly the principles of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Anekantavada (pluralism of truth), saying these values are essential in today’s world facing conflict and divisions.
He said that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, India is emerging as a strong nation that conveys the message that “true peace is not weakness but unwavering courage,” adding that the present time calls for “building bridges, not battlefields.”
Referring to global instability, the Lieutenant Governor said humanity must draw lessons from Lord Mahavira’s philosophy to strengthen peace, harmony, and brotherhood. He stressed that true progress is rooted in responsibility, accountability, and mutual understanding among diverse cultures and viewpoints.
Calling for introspection and individual transformation, Sinha said Lord Mahavira’s teachings of discipline, truth, restraint, and non-possession can help elevate society and contribute to nation-building. He urged the youth to adopt non-violence not only as a moral principle but also as a guiding approach towards environmental protection.
He further said Anekantavada teaches humility and intellectual openness, warning against echo chambers where opinions are mistaken for absolute truths.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor also felicitated achievers from various fields.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Justice Rajnesh Oswal, MLAs Yudhvir Sethi and Arvind Gupta, along with senior officials including Divisional Commissioner Jammu, IGP Jammu, and ADGP Armed. Senior members of the Jain community and representatives of the SS Jain Sabha also participated in the celebrations.
