Handwara Police Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Trafficking; 3 More Peddlers Arrested

Handwara: Stepping up its drive against drug trafficking, Handwara Police has arrested three more alleged drug peddlers in separate operations, officials said on Sunday.

They said that cases have been registered under FIR No. 55/2026 at Police Station Handwara under Sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and FIR No. 12/2026 at Police Station Vilgam under Sections 8/21 of the Act.

“With these latest arrests, the total number of cases registered in the Handwara jurisdiction over the past week has reached nine, while ten accused persons have been apprehended in connection with drug-related offences.”

Officials described the ongoing action as part of a focused and coordinated campaign aimed at dismantling drug networks and preventing the spread of narcotics, particularly among the youth. They reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe environment for the public.

“Investigations in all cases are in progress, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal trade,” officials added.
