Jammu, Mar 29:: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Sunday asserted that the Jammu and Kashmir government along with all stakeholders endeavoured hard to take Jammu marathon to the next level and as an annual event, it would benefit Jammu tourism sector also to a great extent.

“A thought (regarding Jammu marathon) had taken shape in 2024. The Kashmir marathon had been organised for the past two years. However, last year, the Jammu marathon could not be held because of certain reasons. The Jammu and Kashmir government, its various departments, all stakeholders and particularly the Tourism department have endeavoured hard to take this event to a next level,” he said, while responding to media queries on the sidelines of the felicitation ceremony of Jammu Marathon at MA Stadium, Jammu.

“To my knowledge, many representatives of various countries participated. After it (marathon) becoming an annual event, tourism in Jammu region is also going to be benefitted a lot by “Jammu marathon”,” he affirmed. “As I’ve told you earlier, the foreign participants are also taking part in it. Broadly speaking, 4000 registrations were made and as per an estimate, over 3000 people took part in the (Jammu) marathon,” LG Sinha said, while replying to a query about the participation of around 90 representatives from foreign countries in the inaugural edition of Jammu marathon.

Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor said, “Till just a few years ago, none could even think about marathon or cricket tournaments of such a grand scale in J&K. But now all those dreams and aspirations, realisation of which was long-awaited, are being fulfilled today. Crossing all the hurdles, the waves of Tawi, Chenab and Vitasta are manifesting the new public aspirations; dreams floating on lakes and the new resolutions taking shapes on the grounds.”
