SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Friday finalised arrangements for Jammu’s first-ever international marathon, scheduled for March 29, with directions to ensure global-standard execution.
At a high-level meeting attended by senior officials, Dulloo stressed flawless coordination across departments, calling for comprehensive preparedness in areas such as traffic management, route safety, medical support and volunteer deployment. He also proposed making the event an annual feature and constituting a permanent steering committee to oversee future editions.
Officials informed that over 3,600 participants, including 91 international runners, have already registered, with total participation expected to reach around 4,000. The marathon will begin at sunrise from M A Stadium and include three categories—Half Marathon (21 km), 10 km Run and 5 km Fun Run.
A total prize pool of Rs 1.33 crore has been announced across categories, with separate awards for men, women and local participants. The administration said the event is aimed at promoting Jammu and Kashmir as a destination for international marathon tourism.
