New Delhi: Baramulla Member of Parliament, Er Rashid, on Tuesday announced in the Lok Sabha that he will donate one month’s salary towards rebuilding a school in Iran that was destroyed in a recent joint strike by US-Israel, resulting in the deaths of over 100 children.
The announcement came during a discussion on Finance Grants, where Rashid described the incident as a grave humanitarian tragedy and called for global solidarity with the victims. The school, located in Iran’s southern city of Minab, was hit during escalating hostilities, with reports indicating that a majority of those killed were schoolchildren.
Expressing anguish over the loss of young lives, Rashid said that humanitarian values must take precedence over political divisions in times of such crises. He termed his contribution a “small gesture” aimed at supporting the reconstruction of the school and standing in solidarity with bereaved families.
He also highlighted the response from people in Kashmir, stating that individuals across the region had come forward voluntarily to assist victims through donations and relief efforts. Emphasising compassion in international affairs, he urged the Government of India to adopt a balanced and humane approach in responding to civilian tragedies.
The MP said that the scale of loss in the Iran school strike demands not only sympathy but also meaningful support from the global community, particularly in rebuilding essential institutions like schools that serve as lifelines for affected communities.
