Man Killed in Pahalgam Fire Incident; Resort Buildings Gutted, Probe Ordered | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: A 31-year-old man died after sustaining injuries during a fire incident in the Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, officials said.

Officials said a fire broke out at Asal Resort in the Rangward area, damaging multiple structures. The deceased has been identified as Manjeet Singh, son of Wakeel Singh, a resident of Hutmrah Mattan, who was working at Hotel The Wave Lodge in Pahalgam.

According to officials, Singh sustained critical injuries at the site after he was allegedly hit by a reversing Fire and Emergency Services vehicle during the response operation. He was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Pahalgam, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The body is currently lying at SDH Pahalgam, they added.

Officials said the blaze caused extensive damage to property at the resort owned by Mohamad Iqbal Pahalwaan of Naibasti, Anantnag. Two three-storeyed buildings were completely gutted, while another structure suffered partial damage.

A vehicle bearing registration number DL8CV-0555, owned by Asif Iqbal Pahalwaan, was also damaged in the incident.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel from Pahalgam were the first to respond, with reinforcements from Sallar and Ashmuqam stations later joining the operation. The firefighting effort was carried out under the supervision of ADGP Fire and Emergency Services JK Alok Kumar, with senior officers coordinating operations on the ground.

Officials said the fire has been brought under control.

While initial field reports mentioned no loss of life in the blaze itself, authorities clarified that the fatality occurred during the emergency response.

The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, and an investigation is underway.
