Forest Conservator Irfan Ali Shah Visits Kupwara; Conservation, Eco-tourism Efforts Reviewed

Kupwara: Conservator of Forests, North Circle Sopore, Irfan Ali Shah on Sunday visited several areas of Kupwara district where he reviewed forest conservation measures and assessed the potential for eco tourism development.

During the visit, the Conservator participated in Chinar Day celebrations and highlighted the ecological and cultural importance of the Chinar tree in Kashmir. He said the occasion serves as a reminder to strengthen efforts for protecting the iconic tree and ensuring sustainable management of forest resources.

Shah toured a number of tourist destinations including Lolab Valley, Kalaroos, Kalaroos Caves and Karnah Valley, besides other scenic spots in the district. He interacted with forest officials and local stakeholders to take stock of the condition of forest areas and discuss steps for preserving biodiversity.

He said areas such as Lolab Valley and Kalaroos hold strong potential for eco tourism and added that responsible tourism can help generate livelihood opportunities for local residents while supporting environmental conservation.

During the visit, departmental officers briefed him about plantation drives, conservation initiatives and measures being taken to safeguard forest areas in the district.

The Conservator was accompanied by Range Officer Sogam Athar Parvaiz and other officials of the Forest Department. The visit also aimed to promote environmental awareness and strengthen efforts for sustainable tourism in the region.
