IGP constitutes SIT to conduct thorough probe into incident

Jammu, Mar 14: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu zone Bhim Sen Tuti on Saturday constituted a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), under the supervision of DIG, Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) range, to conduct a thorough investigation into the abortive bid on the life of former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Andullah on March 11.

“The SIT must complete the Investigation promptly and thoroughly adhering to the statutory timeframe,” IGP ordered.

The SIT, constituted keeping in view the seriousness and sensitivity of the case, comprised Sanjay Sharma, SSP, SO to DIG JSK, Range; Irshad Hussain Rather, SP Headquarters Jammu; Arvind Kumar Sambyal, DySP, RPHQ, Jammu; Inspector Saroop Singh; Inspector Paramjeet Singh; Inspector Sanjeev Chib, SHO Gangyal and Inspector Shariq Majeed.

“On March 11, 2026, Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, was attending a marriage ceremony at Royal Park Banquet Hall, Greater Kailash, Jammu. At about 10.10 pm, while the protectee (Farooq) was leaving the venue, an individual flashed a revolver and attempted to open fire from close range. However, owing to the prompt action of the police personnel deployed with the protectee, the attempt was foiled,” IGP stated in the order issued by Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu.

In this regard, a case FIR No 29/2026 U/s 109 BNS and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Gangyal, Jammu.

“Considering the seriousness and sensitivity of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising seven members under  the supervision of DIG, JSK Range, is hereby constituted to conduct a thorough investigation of the case,” the IGP said.

Notably, the city judge on March 12 sent the accused Kamal Singh Jamwal, 63, son of Ajit Singh Jamwal, resident of Purani Mandi, to five-day police remand.
