SRINAGAR: A policeman sustained injuries while averting a potential fire disaster at the Press Information Bureau (PIB) office in Press Colony, Srinagar, on Wednesday evening.
Officials said a fire broke out inside the office building after a gas cylinder caught fire, prompting Fire and Emergency Services teams from the headquarters to rush to the spot.
During the incident, SGCT Javaid Ahmad, who was posted at the office, quickly removed the burning cylinder from the premises, preventing the fire from escalating into a major mishap.
Firefighters later brought the blaze under control. The policeman suffered minor injuries during the rescue effort and was taken to hospital, where his condition was reported to be stable.
