PDP President Raises Kashmiri Students’ Evacuation with Iranian Envoy in New Delhi | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday raised concerns about the safety and evacuation of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran during her visit to the Iranian Cultural Centre and Embassy in New Delhi.

Mufti said she met Iranian representatives to convey condolences to the people of Iran and discussed the situation of Kashmiri students studying in the country amid the prevailing circumstances.

During the visit, she paid tributes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and expressed sympathies to the Iranian people.

Mufti also raised the issue of students from Jammu and Kashmir currently pursuing studies in Iran and urged the authorities to ensure their safety and facilitate their early return.

“I visited the Iranian Cultural Centre and Embassy in Delhi to offer my deepest condolences to the people of Iran during these difficult times and paid tributes to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,” Mufti said in a statement posted on X.

She said the matter of Kashmiri students in Iran was discussed with the Iranian Ambassador. “I also raised the issue of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran and urged that their safety be ensured and steps taken for their early return,” she said.

Several students from Jammu and Kashmir are enrolled in medical and other professional courses at universities across Iran. Their families have recently voiced concern over their safety and appealed to the Government of India to assist in facilitating their return or relocation if necessary.

The development comes amid growing concerns among students studying in various Iranian cities, some of whom have appealed to the Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs to closely monitor the situation and provide assistance if required.
