SRINAGAR: A man accused of duping several youths from Srinagar by promising overseas jobs was arrested in Haryana’s Faridabad after months of evading arrest, officials from the Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Farhat Abbas Malik, son of Din Mohammad Malik and a resident of Tendla Chilipingal in Doda district, was allegedly involved in a fake job racket in which he promised placements abroad, particularly in Armenia, and cheated victims of money.

Police said Malik had been absconding for several months in connection with FIR No. 02/2025 registered at Police Station SCW, Crime Branch Kashmir. A special team of the Crime Branch tracked him down and apprehended him from Faridabad, Haryana.

Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a duty magistrate’s court in Faridabad, which granted transit remand. He was subsequently brought to Srinagar and presented before the competent court.

Officials described Malik as a habitual fraudster and said further investigation into the case is underway.

The Special Crime Wing has advised the public, particularly job-seeking youth, to verify the authenticity of job placement agencies and consultancies before making any payments, warning that many fraudsters lure victims with false promises of overseas employment.
