Kupwara Police Holds Workshop on Handling Cases of Missing Children, Dowry Harassment

Srinagar: The District Police Kupwara on Thursday organised a one-day capsule workshop at the District Police Lines in Kupwara to strengthen the handling of cases related to missing children, dowry harassment and human trafficking.

Station House Officers (SHOs) and Investigating Officers (IOs) from across the district attended the programme, which focused on improving investigative standards and ensuring adherence to legal safeguards in cases involving vulnerable sections.

Inspector Shafat Ahmad, Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Kupwara, and Mohammad Rafiq conducted technical sessions on investigation procedures, victim protection protocols and the application of relevant legal provisions. The participants were briefed on Sections 85, 86 and 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

Emphasis was laid on timely registration of cases, proper documentation, inter-agency coordination and ensuring the rights and dignity of victims during investigation.

The district police asserted its zero-tolerance stance against human trafficking, dowry-related harassment and crimes against children, and said strict action would be taken against offenders in accordance with the law.
