
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team has secured its first-ever Ranji Trophy title, defeating Karnataka in a historic final to reach the summit of India’s premier domestic first-class tournament for the first time since its entry in 1959–60.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team in a post on X, calling the victory a historic achievement that reflects the squad’s “remarkable grit, discipline and passion”. He said the triumph was a proud moment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and would inspire young athletes to pursue sporting excellence.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the team in a post on X, extending his wishes to the youth of the region and praising the side for scripting history. He said the victory filled citizens with pride and reflected the spirit of peace, progress and prosperity shaping the region.
The landmark win is being viewed as a defining moment in Indian domestic cricket, signalling the growing prominence of Jammu and Kashmir in the national sporting landscape.
