Srinagar, Feb 25: The Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (NTTA) has welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval for the expansion of the Civil Enclave at Srinagar International Airport, calling it a long-awaited and transformative step for tourism and the economy of Jammu and Kashmir.

NTTA Chairman Manzoor Wangnoo said air connectivity is the Valley’s primary gateway and a critical requirement for sustaining tourism growth. He noted that upgrading airport infrastructure will strengthen Kashmir’s standing as a premier national and international destination.

The expansion is expected to boost passenger handling capacity, ease congestion, streamline arrivals and departures, and improve overall travel experience. A modern civil enclave, he said, will create a strong first impression and reflect Kashmir’s hospitality and readiness to welcome visitors.

Manzoor Wangnoo further expressed hope that the project will be implemented in a time-bound and transparent manner, with due focus on passenger amenities, safety standards, environmental considerations, and future growth requirements. He stressed that infrastructure upgrades must align with sustainable development goals, ensuring that tourism growth remains responsible and environmentally conscious.

NTTA observed that improved infrastructure will benefit hoteliers, houseboat owners, transporters, tour operators, handicraft traders, and allied sectors, while also generating employment, attracting investment, and reinforcing the service-driven economy.
