Manufacturing Unit Sealed in North Kashmir After Videos Show ‘Foot-Kneading of Dough’

Handwara: An edible commodity manufacturing unit in Handwara was sealed by authorities after a video purportedly showing workers kneading flour with their feet surfaced online, officials said on Tuesday.

Officials from the Food Safety Department, accompanied by the local administration, as per Alfaaz – The Words, carried out a raid on the unit following complaints from residents. During the inspection, the premises were sealed and relevant records and materials were taken into custody for further investigation.

An official said samples of the manufactured items have been collected and sent to a laboratory for testing to determine compliance with prescribed safety and hygiene norms. “Strict legal action will be taken if violations are confirmed,” the official said, adding that no compromise will be made on public health.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, sparked outrage among locals who demanded stringent action against those responsible and called for regular monitoring of food processing establishments.

Authorities have assured that the matter is being probed thoroughly and that necessary steps will be taken to uphold food safety regulations.
