SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has informed the Assembly that compensation related to the acquisition of 11,445 kanals and 5 marlas of land by the Defence Forces in the Akhnoor Assembly Constituency is pending in several cases, primarily due to non-issuance of Draft Assessment Reports under the Requisitioning and Acquisition of Immovable Property (RAIP) Act, 1968.

According to the details shared with lawmakers, the cases pertain to the acquisition of requisitioned land under Case No. JK/4062/Acq linked to Station Headquarters Akhnoor in District Jammu.

In Village Gandharwan, Tehsil Akhnoor, land measuring 2,434 kanals and 16 marlas was acquired. However, compensation has not yet been assessed as the Draft Assessment Report has not been issued so far.

Similarly, in Village Bandral Kalan, 2,522 kanals and 11 marlas were acquired under the same case number. The government stated that compensation in this case also remains unassessed due to the pending draft report.

In Village Sunail, involving 1,078 kanals and 14 marlas, compensation has been assessed at 86,29,60,000 rupees.

For Village Ambaran-I, where 1,258 kanals and 10 marlas were acquired, compensation has been assessed at 1,13,31,50,000 rupees under the relevant Defence Estate Office case.

However, in Village Ambaran-II, which accounts for the largest portion at 4,150 kanals and 14 marlas, compensation has not yet been assessed as the Draft Assessment Report under the RAIP Act is still awaited.

The government indicated that issuance of the draft assessment report is mandatory for final determination and disbursement of compensation in the pending cases.
