SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday informed the Assembly that the Union Territory’s e-Office platform has been migrated from the JK State Data Centre to the national cloud infrastructure hosted by RailTel Corporation of India Limited, with the entire hosting cost now being borne by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The disclosure came in response to a query regarding the reasons for migration of the e-Office project from JaKeGA-managed infrastructure and the annual expenditure incurred since its inception.

The Government stated that e-Office was implemented in the Union Territory in 2021 and was initially operated from the JK State Data Centre managed by JaKeGA. However, due to operational challenges and the need for improved service delivery, it was decided to migrate the platform to the National Cloud under a Managed Service Provider (MSP) model.

In May 2024, the JK Government approached the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) seeking funding support for hosting e-Office services on similar lines as extended to eight North Eastern States under a managed service framework.

The approval was conveyed by MeitY on August 30, 2024, covering hosting of the e-Office application for ten States and Union Territories, including Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, along with eight North Eastern States. The arrangement included funding support for hosting, operations and management for an initial user base of 25,000 users, later enhanced to 40,000 users.

Following the approval, migration of e-Office from the JK State Data Centre to RailTel’s cloud infrastructure was initiated. RailTel is an empanelled e-Office Managed Service Provider of NICSI under MeitY.

The Government informed the House that the migration process was successfully completed on October 3, 2024, and clarified that no cost has been incurred by the JK Government for hosting and operational management under the current arrangement, as the expenditure is being met by MeitY.
