SRINAGAR: Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Saturday asserted that Article 370 is “buried forever” and challenged the chief minister Omar Abdullah led National Conference (NC) to define its demand for a ‘special status’ within the constitutional framework.
Addressing a BJP joining programme at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) here, Sharma took a dig at the NC leadership, accusing it of shifting its political narrative after failing to deliver on its core electoral promise of restoring the now-abrogated provision.
“Let it be clear to one and all. Article 370 is history. It is buried forever and there is no power on earth that can bring it back,” the BJP leader said.
Sharma claimed that he has thrown down the challenge to the treasury benches to provide a constitutional definition of the “special status” they are now seeking.
“The NC fought the elections on the false promise of bringing back 370. Now, unable to deliver, they have conveniently changed their vocabulary. I have challenged them in the House to show us where the term ‘special status’ exists in the Indian Constitution,” he said, adding that constitutional positions cannot be altered by political slogans.
He also accused the NC of double standards, alleging that despite publicly criticising the BJP, the party’s leadership has a history of aligning with the party at the Centre for political gains. (KNS)
