Srinagar, Feb 20: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former State Secretary and Constituency Incharge Habba Kadal Arif Laigroo, spokesperson Zuhaib Yousuf Mir, District President Women’s Wing Sarah Nayeem, along with members of the Zone Committee Habba Kadal, visited Dakpura Jamalatta to engage with local residents and listen to their pressing issues and grievances.

Residents expressed serious concern over the conversion of a government land area into a garbage dumping site due to alleged municipal neglect. They demanded its immediate clearance and proper development into a public park or playground for the benefit of local youth and children, said a press release.

The delegation urged the Municipal Commissioner to intervene and address the issue at the earliest, ensuring the removal of garbage and restoration of the land for public use. They emphasized that continued negligence would only worsen sanitation and health conditions in the locality.

Another major issue highlighted was the inadequate maintenance of drainage systems, which has resulted in frequent waterlogging in residential areas. Locals also raised alarm over the lack of proper access routes for fire and emergency services, terming it a grave safety risk requiring urgent attention from the concerned authorities. The dilapidated condition of the revered shrine of Sheikh Ahmad Sahib, also known as Mirwaiz-e-Awal, was also brought to the delegation’s notice, with residents demanding its immediate renovation and preservation.

Speaking on the occasion, Arif Laigroo said: “Turning public land into a garbage dump reflects administrative failure. We strongly urge the Municipal Commissioner to take immediate action to clear the site and ensure its proper development”

Zuhaib Yousuf Mir added: “Civic neglect has caused immense inconvenience to residents. Authorities must act responsibly and address these pressing issues without delay. The dignity and safety of the people should be the top priority.”
