BRO opens Mughal Road in winter for first time

Rajouri, Feb 20: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has opened the strategic Mughal Road after snow clearance in February for the first time, marking a major milestone in maintaining winter connectivity between Rajouri-Poonch and Kashmir Valley.

The road has been thrown open by Director General Road Development, Special Secretary Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways, VK Rajawat who is a two-day visit to the Rajouri and Poonch districts to take stock of road infrastructure.

Presently maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the road is now part of National Highway (NH) 701A, which is newly sanctioned.

Mughal Road starts from Bufliyaz in Poonch’s Surankote and ends at Hirpora Shopian in Kashmir valley.

BRO stated that in a historic first, the snow clearance of National Highway 701A (Pir Ki Gali) has been completed by the teams of Project Sampark from Bufliaz to Peer Ki Gali and Project Beacon from Sophian to Peer Ki Gali.

” This is the first instance when the road has been opened in February while the road in earlier years could only be opened by April May.” BRO stated.

VK Rajawat, DG Road Development and Special Secretary MoRTH formally opened the strategic Peer Ki Gali pass in presence of CE Project Sampark and  CE Project Beacon.
