SRINAGAR: The new multi-storeyed Modern Assembly Complex in Jammu is expected to be operational by October 2027, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said on Monday.

Choudhary made the announcement while inspecting the ongoing construction works, reviewing progress, and assessing the quality of execution. He directed officers and contractors to expedite remaining works, emphasising strict adherence to timelines and high-quality standards.

“The project is expected to be completed by October 2027, and we are hopeful that the Budget Session 2028 will be conducted in the new House,” he said, warning that “there is no scope for delay, and the quality of work must be ensured.”

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that the Assembly Complex has been designed to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, enhanced functionality, and improved public convenience. The building integrates administrative efficiency, public access, media facilitation, healthcare facilities, and adequate parking, strengthening institutional functioning and ensuring smooth conduct of House proceedings.

During the inspection, Choudhary reviewed the Assembly Hall, Press and Guest Galleries, basements, and offices designated for dignitaries. He also directed that seating capacity in the House, including guest, Speaker’s, and press galleries, be enhanced to meet future requirements, including potential delimitation.

Chief Engineer, PWD Jammu, Er Rajesh Kumar Agastam briefed the Deputy Chief Minister, noting that the lower basement will accommodate parking and essential services, while the upper basement will house two canteens, a 10-bedded Health and Wellness Centre, an Allied Services Block, and additional parking.

The ground floor includes the main Assembly Hall with seating for 130, offices for the Speaker, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly. The first floor features a Press and Visitors Gallery with capacity for over 450, a Committee Room, and allied offices of the Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

Also present during the inspection were the Chief Engineer, concerned Superintending and Executive Engineers, and other senior officers overseeing the project.
