Demise of Ghulam Ahmad Mir widely condoled

Srinagar, Feb 13: Prominent figures from different walks of life, including political leaders, trade bodies and representatives of other apex organisations on Friday extended condolences over the demise of Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Kangan.

Originally a resident of Sopore, Ghulam Ahmad Mir breathed his last at his residence at Haripora Kangan, where he had been unwell for a long time. His Nimaz-i-Janazah was offered at Haripora Kangan, after which he was laid to rest at the Haripora Kangan graveyard amid the presence of relatives, friends and residents. He is survived by his two sons, Mir Afaq and Mir Suhail, and a daughter. The deceased was father-in-law of Greater Kashmir Editor-in-Chief, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo. While a large number of people on Friday visited Haripora Kangan to offer condolence, widespread condolences have been pouring in.

 National Conference

National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have expressed profound grief over the demise of Khawaja Ghulam Ahmad Mir, father-in-law of Greater Kashmir Editor-in-Chief, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo,  said a party statement.

The duo prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength and fortitude to the bereaved family, particularly his sons, Mir Afaq and Mir Suhail, during this difficult time, it said.  Party General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Mir, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, as well as the party’s media and social media wings also extended their condolences to the Kaloo and Mir families. President of J&K Jamait Hamdani, Moulana Riyaz Hamdani and Chief Spokesperson GM Saqi also condoled the demise and extended condolence to Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo and other bereaved family members. They prayed for peace to the departed soul.

 Peoples Democratic Party

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the demise of Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Kangan. Mehbooba prayed for the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family.  “JKPDP President Ms @MehboobaMufti has expressed her heartfelt condolences to Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo Sahib, Editor-in-Chief of  @GreaterKashmir, on the passing of his father-in-law, Ghulam Ahmad Mir Sahib. In this moment of profound grief, we pray that Allah grants the departed soul the highest place in Jannah and gives strength and patience to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss,” said a post on X.  Senior PDP leaders Waheed Parra and Firdous Tak have also condoled the demise.  Meanwhile, a delegation of the PDP visited Haripora Kangan to offer condolences. The delegation was led by former minister Nayeem Akhtar and was accompanied by PDP senior leader Arif Laigroo. They expressed sorrow over the demise.  The leaders personally conveyed their condolences to Mir Afaq and Mir Suhail, sons of the deceased, and extended their sympathies to the entire bereaved family, said a statement. They prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength and patience for the family to bear this irreparable loss.

 J&K Apni Party

President of Apni Party, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, led a delegation of senior party leaders to extend condolences on the passing of Ghulam Ahmed Mir. According to a press release, Bukhari and his accompanying leaders, including Chairman of the party’s Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Mohammad Dilawar Mir, General Secretary Rafi Ahmed Mir, Media Advisor Farooq Andrabi, Mir Imaad, Mian Abdul Lateef, Qasim Gakhar and other senior workers visited the bereaved family and offered their condolences.

The visiting delegation met Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo and other members of the bereaved family, including Mir Afaq and Mir Suhail, the two sons of the deceased, it added.  They expressed their sympathies and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.

 FCIK advisory committee

The members of the Advisory Committee of the Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK), headed by Shahid Kamili, Head, Advisory Committee, FCIK and comprising the Presidents of various Industrial Estates, representatives of district-based unorganised sectors, and leaders of diverse lines of activity from across the Valley, expressed their grief and extended condolences on the demise of Ghulam Ahmad Mir.

“We fully understand that his passing is an irreparable loss to the family and to all those who had the privilege of knowing him as a noble, dignified, and compassionate soul. His demise has left a deep void that words can scarcely fill,” said the condolence message.

“We would also like to inform you that condolence meetings were held by the Advisory Committee, in addition to various industrial associations across multiple estates, where office bearers and members gathered to pay homage to the departed soul. Special prayers were offered for his eternal peace, and heartfelt sympathy and solidarity were expressed with you and the entire bereaved family in this hour of profound grief which were participated, among others, by the past Presidents of FCIK — MD Qureshi, Shakeel Qalander, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Ashraf Mir and Mukhtar Yousuf,” it added. It further added: “We pray to the Almighty to grant the departed soul the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and to bestow patience, strength, and fortitude upon you and your family to endure this immense loss.”

 Moul Mouj Foundation

Moul Mouj Foundation on Friday held a condolence meeting on the demise of Ghulam Ahmad Mir. Dr Zubair Saleem, Dr Shakeel-ur-Rehman, Farooq Ahmad Khan, and staff of Moul Mouj Foundation and Kashmir Clinics Central attended the meeting.

Prayers were offered for the departed soul, and heartfelt condolences were expressed to the bereaved family, praying for eternal peace for the deceased and strength for the family to bear this loss.

 EJAC

Employees Joint Action Committee Jammu and Kashmir (EJAC) has also expressed grief over the passing away of Ghulam Ahmad Mir.

Senior Trade Union Leader and President EJAC, Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam extended his sympathies to GK Editor-in-chief, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo and the bereaved family, describing the demise as an irreparable loss.

“Shabnam prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and beseeched Almighty Allah to grant him the highest place in Jannat-ul-,Firdous. He also prayed for patience, strength, and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this immense loss,” said a statement.

 PSC Lecturers Association

The President of All J&K PSC Lecturers Association, Mansoor Ahmad Khan, has also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of Ghulam Ahmad Mir. In his condolence message, Mansoor Ahmad Khan conveyed sympathies to the bereaved family. He prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and for strength and patience to the family to bear this irreparable loss. “May Almighty Allah grant the departed soul the highest place in Jannah and give courage to the family to withstand this profound loss. The members of the All J&K PSC Lecturers Association also joined in expressing solidarity with the grieving family and extended their deepest condolences,” said the press release.

 Hakeem Yaseen

PDF President Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has expressed grief over the demise of Ghulam Ahmad Mir. In a condolence message, Hakeem Yaseen conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to GK Editor-in-chief, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo and the bereaved family, describing the loss as irreparable and deeply saddening. He said that such moments of grief are a great test of patience and faith.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur expressed sorrow over the demise of Ghulam Ahmad Mir. In a condolence message, Thakur conveyed his sympathies to GK Editor-in-Chief, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo and the bereaved family, terming the loss as irreparable. He prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength for the family to endure the difficult time.

“May the Almighty grant the departed soul the highest place in Jannah and bestow patience upon the family to bear this profound grief,” he said. Thakur also expressed solidarity with the family and relatives, saying his thoughts and prayers are with them during this hour of mourning.
