Srinagar, Feb 13: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah has extended greetings to the people of J&K, particularly the Kashmiri Pandit community on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, locally celebrated as Herath.
In their joint message, Dr Farooq and CM Omar described the festival as one of profound religious, historical and cultural significance for the region. They said that since time immemorial, Herath has been celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour, symbolizing Kashmir’s timeless spirit of harmony and coexistence, said a party statement.
The duo emphasised that the festival rejuvenates the bonds of brotherhood and unity that define the Valley’s pluralistic ethos. “Herath resuscitates the unique cultural and civilizational identity of Kashmir,” they said adding, “an identity that remains incomplete without the cherished presence and contributions of our Kashmiri Pandits.” They expressed hope that the occasion would usher in peace, prosperity and renewed togetherness among all communities. Meanwhile, the party’s rank and file also conveyed their warm greetings and best wishes to the Pandit community on the sacred eve of Herath, praying for happiness and well-being for all.
