Srinagar, Feb 13: National Conference (NC) General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar on Friday expressed heartfelt condolence on the sad demise of former minister Qamar Ali Akhoon, and extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
In a statement issued, Sagar said that it is with immense grief and a profound sense of loss that I express my heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of my dear colleague and veteran leader, Jinab Qamar Ali Akhoon Sahab, former Minister and a towering figure from Kargil-Ladakh in the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference family.
Qamar Ali Akhoon Sahab was not merely a party leader; he embodied unwavering integrity, simplicity, dedication, and selfless service to the people of Ladakh, especially Kargil. Our personal association spanned more than three decades, forging a deep friendship filled with cherished memories. Professionally, as my Minister of State in the Public Works Department, I witnessed firsthand his exceptional administrative abilities, extreme honesty, and people-friendly approach, the statement said.
From his early days in public life to his tenure as Minister, he remained a steadfast advocate for justice, development, and the rights of the marginalized in remote and far-flung areas. His tireless efforts in bridging community divides, pushing for improved infrastructure, education, and welfare initiatives in Kargil have left an indelible mark that will be remembered for generations.
In his passing, we have lost a bold and principled voice championing Ladakh’s aspirations within Jammu & Kashmir—a true son of the soil who never compromised on his values, even in the most challenging times. His humility, compassion, and steadfast commitment to the National Conference’s core ideals of secularism, brotherhood, and inclusive progress have inspired countless party workers and leaders, including myself, the statement said.
It added the void created by his departure is immense and difficult to fill. The people of Kargil and Ladakh have lost a genuine representative who truly understood their language, aspirations, and struggles, fighting their battles with unwavering honesty and courage.
On my personal behalf and on behalf of the entire Jammu & Kashmir National Conference family, I extend deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, children, relatives, friends, and the people of Kargil who share this profound grief. May Almighty Allah grant his noble soul the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and bestow sabr (patience) upon his family to bear this irreparable loss, Sagar in a statement said.
