SRINAGAR: The Government of India on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that 19 posts in Consumer Commissions in Jammu and Kashmir remain vacant as of December 31, 2025.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, BL Verma, stated that the vacancies include one President and one Member post in the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, as well as six President and eleven Member posts in District Consumer Commissions.

The government noted that under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, it is the responsibility of the respective State or Union Territory administration to fill these positions, with recruitment processes required to be initiated at least six months before a post becomes vacant.

Verma added that the Centre has been regularly urging States and UTs to expedite the recruitment process to ensure timely disposal of consumer cases.
