
SRINAGAR: A late-night fire in Srinagar’s Habbakadal area damaged at least six residential houses, officials said on Wednesday.
The State Fire Control Room received a call at 10:32 PM, and fire tenders from Habakadal, Babdem, Gowkadal, Headquarters, and Syed Hameed Pora were immediately dispatched.
Owing to the congested nature of the area, reinforcements from Maharaj Gunj, Rainawari, Safakadal, Rawalpora, Nowshera, and Nowgam were also deployed to contain the blaze.
During firefighting operations, a fireman sustained serious hand injuries and was hospitalised, while two civilians also suffered injuries and received medical care. Two to three gas cylinders exploded, causing damage mainly to the attic portions of the six houses.
Meanwhile, ADGP Alok Kumar, advised the public to exercise caution while using electrical appliances and LPG cooking gas to prevent similar incidents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
