SRINAGAR: Twenty government offices in District Budgam are functioning from scattered, mostly rented buildings, and there is currently no proposal to construct a unified government office complex at the sub-district level to relocate them, the administration told the Assembly.

The information was given in a written reply to a starred question tabled by Ali Mohammad Dar. The Public Works Department (R and B), which supplied the details, said the department-wise list of rented premises has been compiled. The Revenue Department, the reply added, has also reported that no such proposal is under examination.

The data, furnished by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, names 20 offices that are currently housed in rented buildings. They include the Irrigation Sub Division Pakherpora, the Assistant Director Fire and Emergency Services command at Budgam, the Area Market Office Budgam and several zonal physical education offices and ICDS/CDPO project offices across Beerwah, Chadoora, Nagam, Narbal, Khansahib and other tehsils. The reply says the rented status and department-wise particulars have been provided to the House for ready reference.

The question had asked whether the administration proposed a planned sub-district complex to improve public convenience and whether offices would be relocated there. The department replied that no such proposal is before it and that the Revenue Department likewise reported no proposal for consideration.
