Jammu, Feb 3: Leader of Opposition in J&K Legislature Sunil Sharma on Tuesday reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was advocating the establishment of two National Law Universities in J&K – one for Jammu and the other for Kashmir.

Sharma, while responding to media queries outside the J&K Legislature, said that the demand of protesting Jammu students was genuine, justified and BJP was supporting it.

“This is the right of Jammu students. Only the concerned minister will have to demonstrate a big-heart. Central guidelines permit the establishment of more than one university. If they don’t have any objection to opening of varsity, they should not rake up Hindu-Muslim issues. It is now up to the J&K government how far it wants to stretch this issue. BJP is prepared to support this till its logical conclusion,” he announced.

Responding to a question about NC legislators’ sit-in on statehood restoration demand, Sharma said, “It was a formality as they faced a flak from Kashmiri people on the issue of Lieutenant Governor’s address which had nothing like that. So they did it as a face-saving act for five minutes in the morning to placate the sentiments of their constituencies. Otherwise they (NC) know that the statehood would be given by the Prime Minister only and as he (PM) spells out – at the appropriate time.”

He also targeted the Congress for seeking an alliance coordination committee. “This is Congress’ frustration as it is not being entertained by the alliance partner as per its expectations. But sadly it (Congress) was snubbed here also (in the House) by NC legislators,” LoP said.
