Forces, terrorists exchange fire during encounter in Udhampur

Jammu, Feb 3: Security forces and terrorists exchanged heavy gunfire on Tuesday after contact was established during a cordon and search operation in Jophar village of Udhampur district, officials said, adding that a group of terrorists has been trapped and the operation is underway.

The operation, officials said, was launched on Tuesday morning by security forces after suspicious movement in the area.

Joint teams of Indian Army, Special Forces and Police launched this operation carrying out extensive searches to track suspected terrorists hiding in the area.

During searches, the officials said, contact got established between security forces and terrorists and heavy gunfire is going on between both the sides.

Official sources stated that a group of terrorists, suspected to be two to three in number, could be hiding in the area and have been trapped.

Indian Army, in an official statement issued from White Knight Corps, termed the Operation as Operation Kiya informing that in an intelligence based joint operation, contact has been established with the terrorists by the Troops of Counter Insurgency Force (CIF) Delta, White Knight Corps, J&K Police and CRPF at around 4 pm today in the general area of Basantgarh.

Cordon has been established and firefight is on, Army stated further informing that the operation is in progress.
