Handwara: Handwara Police on Friday organised a drug awareness programme at Higher Secondary School (HSS) Qalamabad, Mawer, with an aim to educate students about the ill effects of drug abuse and to promote a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle among youth.
The programme, organised by Police Station Qalamabad, focused on sensitising students about the physical, mental and social consequences of substance abuse. SHO Qalamabad, Ashraf Boniyari, while addressing the students, spoke in detail about various types of drugs, their long-term impact on health and the serious risks associated with drug dependency.
He emphasised the importance of self-discipline, positive peer influence and informed decision-making in life, underscoring the crucial role students can play in building a safe and drug-free society. Other speakers also highlighted the need for collective efforts by families, educational institutions and law enforcement agencies to curb the menace of drug abuse.
The programme concluded with students taking a pledge to stay away from drugs and to spread awareness among their peers and within the society.
The school administration in the meantime lauded the initiative of Handwara Police and reaffirmed its commitment to the overall well-being and character development of students.
