SRINAGAR: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara, Javed Naseem Masoodi, who is also the Adjudicating Officer for the subdivision, on Thursday imposed fines amounting to Rs 30,000 on several Food Business Operators (FBOs) for violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006.

The penalties were levied during adjudication proceedings of cases listed before the officer, wherein the traders were found involved in the sale of misbranded and substandard food items.

Officials said the action was taken after examination of violations under different sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and related rules.

The Adjudicating Officer warned the food business operators to strictly adhere to statutory regulations, stating that any future non-compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act and rules framed thereunder would invite stricter action.

Authorities said enforcement drives and legal proceedings against violators would continue to ensure food safety and protect consumer health.
